Abstract

Adolescence is a difficult period in any person’s life. It is a time of great physical, cognitive, and emotional development. Adolescents must learn to deal with an ever-increasing complexity of social experiences. Transitioning into adulthood can be intimidating; however, there are resources and services to help families, professionals, and the individual with ASD navigate the transition successfully. Transition services are wide range and designed to help individuals with disabilities build skills and knowledge needed to achieve their post-school goals. Schools, families, and agencies may provide services to individuals with disabilities transitioning from school to postsecondary education to postschool activities.

With the increased emphasis on transition-to-employment, Pre-employment transition services are intended to provide individuals with disabilities opportunities to secure and maintain employment and independence. This workshop will provide a guide to parents on collaborative efforts to support the learning of self-advocacy as they transition to post-high-school life.
